A Christmas Story Christmas
You ever wonder what Ralphie from A Christmas Story grew up to become and what his life is like? Well, 39 years later we have our answer. I haven’t waited that long for an answer since the time I mistook the manikin for an employee at Old Navy and I asked for a price check on some cargo shorts.
Turns out Ralphie’s an aspiring writer and is challenged to give his kids the same great Christmas his father gave him. The movie is very reminiscent of the original to include hearing a narration of Ralphie’s thoughts and even features cutaways to random daydream sequences. If you’re not familiar with the original, you are now.
I feel like making sequels 30+ years later is the thing to do now. It’s become common and there’s been some bad ones. Overall though, this one is decent. It’s cool to see where everyone is at and it’s sprinkled with a bunch of the original characters played by the original actors. However, it definitely relies on nostalgia to draw you in. And by “nostalgia” I’m referring to the word that describes a sentimental longing for the past and not the unisex perfume available at Rite Aid. Don’t get me started on that stuff…wore it for years but got tired of trying to convince my peers that unisex perfume is a real thing. It is! I swear!
In the end though, this gets our “wait for streaming” rating. It’s an easy holiday watch that reminds you of a classic Christmas movie you’ve probably seen several times growing up. However, if you don’t rush out and see it, you’ll be fine to catch it later. Unlike the sale on Nostalgia this weekend at Rite Aid. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. And I plan on filling up my cargo pockets with a bottle or two for sure.
