Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

I was just getting ready for my annual trip to the Cannes Film festival when I sat down to watch this independent film. I was initially blown away by the production value of a movie made outside of a major studio only to realize that I was watching an Indy film and NOT an indie film. You can see my confusion. This is what I get for overlooking a letter that’s only sometimes a vowel.

Let’s get to the film though. I’m among the group that believes Indiana Jones perhaps should’ve ended with The Last Crusade. I love seeing Indy in his later years, and getting to know he’s still out there pursuing awesome supernatural artifacts, but this one just didn’t provide that same adventure I was hoping for. I did enjoy the third act of the film, where we got to see the artifact in play, and thought the process they used to create a young Harrison Ford was extremely well done! I wish they could apply that same de-aging technology to my jokes.

In the end though, we’re giving this our “wait for streaming” rating. It’s Indiana Jones, so you’ve got to watch it, but it may not be the theater experience you want it to be. And if you’re looking for a nice black and white French movie filmed entirely on handheld with no cuts, this is not the Indy film you’re looking for.
