Wish

“Wish”. The word takes me back to blowing out the candles on my 10th birthday. No, I never did get my jet pack with a built in Little Debbie Snack-cake  dispenser, but the idea of the wish coming true kept me going for several more years. This movie however, is about a kingdom that gives their wishes to their king, and he decides who gets their wish granted. I wish this is how it actually worked, I would’ve slipped that king a crisp $20 bill and that sweet-treat of a jet pack would’ve been mine. Imagine flying into 4th grade on that baby!

The movie itself was enjoyable. The music was well done and the movie captures an inspiring message as Disney movies often do. That being said, I felt like it followed the typical Disney formula we almost always see. There were also a ton of Disney nods and references that were so obvious that it just felt a bit gimmicky to me. And lastly, the animation seemed like multiple styles merged together. The characters in the foreground looked computer generated while the backgrounds resembled animation from a paper storybook. Some (me) might find this distracting.

In conclusion, we are giving this our “wait for streaming” rating. If you’re looking for a typical Disney flick with some good music, this can be enjoyed from your couch when time allows. No need to fly into the theaters with your new jet pack eating a box of Zebra Cakes or Fudge Rounds for this movie.
