Barbie
I never played with Barbies as a kid per se, but I did take my sister’s pink Barbie corvette and spray paint it black so it would look like K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. And after adding a handkerchief parachute and a paperclip grappling hook, the technologically advanced car was complete. I only tell you this story so you know I’m relatable and have some experience when it comes to Barbie.
All this being said, I enjoyed the new movie. That being said, it was a lot to take in and a lot to digest. It featured beautiful set designs, and the film was quite original, something most films lack these days. The other side of the coin is, it was heavier than I expected. There were several messages, but the one that stood out the most to me is “life is hard”. I don’t disagree with this, I just didn’t get that vibe from any of the trailers so when I was hit by it during the movie, it took me by surprise. Of course life is hard. My poor sister got her toy Barbie corvette stolen. It’s a sick world out there.
Overall, we’re giving this our “wait for streaming” rating. It’s worth seeing what the $1.4 billion dollar phenomenon is all about, and it’s entertaining and original, but for me personally, it can be enjoyed just as well from the comfort of your couch and doesn’t necessarily need to be seen on the big screen. And I promise you this opinion won’t upset the film makers, as they now have enough money to buy Planet Earth fully furnished. And for those of you that are wondering, I didn’t actually spray paint my sister’s Barbie corvette…I merely covered it in black electrical tape because my parents didn’t trust me with paint. I’m not a monster. Also, the handkerchief parachute didn’t work. My apologies to both my sister and K.I.T.T.
