Extraction 2
For all my dentist friends out there I’m sorry to report that Extraction 2 is not about tooth removal, but I am pretty sure a few people get their teeth knocked out throughout the film. But is this movie a knockout?
In short, I really enjoyed it. The movie is essentially one big action sequence from start to finish, which I don’t mind at all. Some may have problems with the simplicity of the storyline, but I feel like that’s not what gets me to tune in to the Extraction franchise. I want to see Chris Hemsworth causing some damage with an array of practical stunts perfectly orchestrated by a stunt team that’s among the best in the business, and in order to see that fantasy…uh…I mean sequence, I watch the Extraction films.
In particular, the series is becoming known for its famous one-take sequences. Essentially there’s a big action scene that’s carefully filmed to make it appear as though the camera never cuts away and is done in “one take”. Extraction 2 out does itself with a one take sequence that lasts over 21 minutes. That’s like an entire episode of Family Matters without any cuts, only with Hemsworth instead of Urkel. Yes, there was probably a better way for me to explain that.
In conclusion, we’re giving this our “rent it” rating (even though it’s free on Netflix). It’s practical stunts and choreography put it above our “wait for streaming” rating and it’s simple story will be the major criticism of many, which places it just below our “go to the theater” rating. I know, our ranking system is so scientific it’s scary. Sometimes deciding on a rating can be very difficult. It’s like pulling teeth, which again, is not at all what Extraction 2 is about. Sorry to disappoint you Dr. Chen, but I’ll see you next Thursday for my cleaning.
💳= Rent it. It’s worth the money.
