Thirteen Lives
First off, I apologize for not posting this weekend. I was able to negotiate paid vacations as a benefit with my employer and took full advantage, which led to a week’s trip on the open seas. This is just one of the perks of being self-employed, I know all my boss’s weak points.
That being said, I did manage to watch Ron Howard’s latest film, Thirteen Lives. This movie is a realistic depiction of the efforts of thousands of volunteers that worked together to save the lives of a Thai youth soccer team that was trapped in a flooded cave. The film is based on an actual event and, in my opinion, these rescue workers are true heroes! On a side note, it blows my mind that the word “hero” can also be used to describe deli meat on a hoagie roll. How do we allow this? Delicious sandwiches containing fresh meats and individuals displaying selfless acts of bravery should not be homonyms…and now I’m hungry.
I will say the story was quite moving to see how no expenses were spared and to see how many people came together to rescue 13 lives. It was also excellently portrayed with some serious star power backing it up. Colin Farrell and Viggo Mortensen play two of the lead rescuers and they did not phone this one in. These guys could play in a sandbox and I’d watch them.
In conclusion, this is an excellent film that I recommend you watch if you enjoy realistic portrayals of historical events. It’s a specific category of film and this one was done well. That being said, the theater experience or rental doesn’t add anything to the movie so I do feel you can wait for streaming. It’s available exclusively on Amazon Prime’s video streaming service. I’d love to write more but my Jimmy John’s order just got here. Man they’re fast! I just ordered this thing two paragraphs ago.
🛶= wait for streaming
