Confess, Fletch
Jon Hamm is a lot like my local pastry chef, there’s no roll he can’t fill. Yes, I know there’s different spellings between “role” and “roll”, but that joke will land with anyone listening to this review on Audible. My point is, Jon Hamm is a great actor no matter the genre, and this comedy is no exception.
Confess, Fletch follows a former newspaper reporter, named Fletch, who is framed for murder. It is a reboot of the 1980’s films, Fletch and Fletch Lives that starred Chevy Chase, which were based off of a book series by Gregory McDonald. However, unlike me wearing stilts, this movie stands on its own.
My favorite part of this film is by far the character of Fletch. I love his clever one-liners, his consequence-free mentality, and when he gives a fake name then can’t remember the name that he gave. It reminds me of when I do my taxes each year.
In the end, I’m rating this as “rent it” knowing that I’m doing so with a bias. I’m a big fan of the originals and am glad I get to see Fletch live on in some form. If you’re not a fan of the originals or witty one-liners, you can wait for streaming. Either way, give it a chance. It’s like a much needed tube of Preparation H, it feels good on the whole. Yes, I’m aware of “whole” vs. “hole”, just trying to keep those Audible listeners happy. What’s that? We’re not on Audible?
💳= Rent it. It’s worth money, but maybe not theater money.
