Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Most sequels are like bad lunches. If they take 30 years to make, it’s probably not worth waiting for. However, Ghostbusters: Afterlife totally pulled it off! They were able to provide the perfect balance of old and new and were able to connect it to the original 1984 film without being gimmicky.

It was also cool to see what some of those classic ghosts look like with modern-day special effects. Fans of the original Ghostbusters might remember Zuul being a combination of claymation and puppetry. This time around though you get to see that same Zuul in full 4K with high dynamic range letting you appreciate all the detail in this Gatekeeper down to his demigod pores.

The cast was also great. In the 80’s with cast members like Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis, we didn’t think Ghostbusters could get any better, but that’s because we didn’t know about Paul Rudd yet. He and the rest of the cast made a great addition to the Ghostbusters universe. And with the leads in the movie being in high school or younger, the movie also had this “Goonies” feel to it, which fit right in.

In conclusion, this is a go to the theater quality of movie that pays proper homage to the original. Even though it came out 37 years after the original, it was worth the wait…unlike my tuna melt I ordered from a Howard Johnson’s in 1992…what’s taking them so long? I’m starving.
