Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
What can I say about Weird Al that hasn’t already been said about the Mona Lisa, the Northern Lights, or immaculate conception. He is truly the miracle of our time. Thanks to The Roku Channel his life’s story has been captured on film, leaving fans saying “what the #%*@ is The Roku Channel??”
Fans with the Roku app, an Amazon Fire TV or those willing to stream from an internet browser, will have the chance to watch Weird Al’s “not at all made-up” biopic. In short, you remember those beer commercials about the most interesting man in the world? Now imagine if those commercials were turned into a 1 hour 48 minute movie. That’s basically the feel of this film. While that bit works great for a commercial, there are brief moments that feel like the idea is being stretched to fill a full length film.
Nonetheless, I laughed out loud several times, I enjoyed the cameos, the music and the cast. In particular, Daniel Radcliffe nails it as Weird Al and after watching him in TV interviews, unlike my dentist, he just seems like a cool dude.
In the end, this gets our wait for streaming rating. It’s a fun watch when you need something weird in your life. And if Al Yankovic has taught us anything, it’s we could all use a little weird in our lives. We could also all use a dentist in our lives that’s not going to nag our eardrums every time we go in for a cleaning. Why don’t you stop eating candy Dr. Chen!?!?!
