Father of the Bride
My initial thought was “Steve Martin has aged incredibly well”, but as it turns out this is a reboot, not a sequel, and that was actually Andy Garcia.
That’s right. This 2022 release, Father of the Bride, is actually a reboot of the 1991 film, Father of the Bride, starring Steve Martin, which was a reboot of the 1950 film, Father of the Bride, starring Spencer Tracy. It’s basically the multiverse for wedding dads.
Once I got that all figured out, I enjoyed the movie. I didn’t laugh out loud very often, but the movie was lighthearted and easy to watch. The secret is you’ve got to treat this movie like a third child, you can’t keep comparing it to the first or second one.
In conclusion, our team of analysts (me sitting on my couch) believes you can wait for streaming on this one. It’s not bad so it’s not getting a lower ranking, but in the end it really is just a cliché wedding movie. Sometimes that’s what you need though. Maybe it’s movie night with mom, or there’s a wedding in the family coming up, or Andy Garcia is in your living room with a handgun asking to watch your favorite Father of the Bride movie and the first two aren’t available. Either way, there are worse things you can walk down the aisle.
My rating:
