The Greatest Beer Run Ever

I’m not a huge Zac Efron fan, which is why I only have one tattoo of him. That being said, Efron is a triple threat. The man can act, sing and dance. I’d be happy if I was a quarter threat and could do one of those. Luckily, I’m good at math.

This movie follows a man who decided to bring his friends fighting in Vietnam some beer to let them know the country was still behind them. The story lets you see Efron’s character and how his understanding of the war changes throughout his time in country.

The interesting thing is, this is a true story! That’s right, completely true, unlike the story about how the kids at my 5th grade summer camp duct-taped me halfway inside my sleeping bag and tried to convince me I was a mermaid. There’s even less truth to the rumor that I believed them and tried to start my own under water currency in the camp lake.

This movie is well made and tells an interesting story that is far better than fiction. It also features the acting chops of Russell Crowe, which you can never go wrong with. Additionally, despite being shot in 2022, the director is able to perfectly capture the era.

In the end, this gets our “Rent It” rating, but those with Apple TV+ won’t have to, as it’s exclusively streaming on that platform. The third act gets heavy and the tone becomes less lighthearted to say the least. The story is worth watching, but the message is what you expect from a war film, which is “war is bad”. The predictable message is the only thing that kept this from getting our “Go to the theater to see” rating. Nevertheless, we think you’ll enjoy it. I’d bet a thousand clam-dollars on it!

💳= Rent it. It’s worth money, but maybe not theater money.
