The Little Mermaid

If there’s one thing The Little Mermaid has taught us, it’s you don’t have to listen to your father. I can’t say whether I agree with that, but I CAN say I always listen to a guy carrying a trident. I don’t care if he says to dress up like Little Bo Peep and sing Mary Had a Little Lamb, I’m going to do what the man with the trident says. But I digress, let’s get to my thoughts on this movie.

In short, it wasn’t bad. It was fun to take the family to and it really is a timeless tale. I’ll also say that Halle Bailey has a truly amazing voice. It’s so good, I’d listen to her sing the entire script of Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones. Also, great performance by Melissa McCarthy! But the movie overall just feels like most of the live action remakes we’ve seen. They are interesting to see what Disney did with them, but we know the story and for me the originals were magical enough.

In the end, this is getting our “wait for streaming” rating. It’ll likely be on Disney+ soon enough, and while it’s enjoyable, there’s nothing that makes this one a must for theaters. So unless the producer shows up to my house with a trident, I stand by my rating.
